چکیده

Certain equipment, instruments or materials are identifi ed in this paper in order to adequately specify the experimental details. Such identifi cation does not imply recommendation by the National Institute of Standards and Technology nor does it imply the materials are necessarily the best available for the purpose. iii FORWORD The NIST Recommended Practice Guide on Measurement Issues in Single Wall Carbon Nanotubes represents the output from the 2nd NASA-NIST workshop devoted to issues of nanotube purity, dispersion and measurement techniques held at NIST in 2005. In attendance were over 80 participants, representing private corporations, universities, and government laboratories. The primary purpose of the workshop was to bring together technical and business leaders in the fi eld of single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) to discuss measurement priorities and aid in the development of measurement protocols. This guide lays out written protocols to enable product developers to more rapidly assess as-received materials, prepare quality nanotube dispersions, and ultimately achieve both repeatability and high performance in their resulting value-added devices. The technical chapters in this guide were written by leading practitioners in the fi eld and present standard methods currently used for characterization of single wall nanotubes in a straightforward fashion.

Measurement of Benzene in Air by Iranian Single-Wall Carbon Nanotubes

Background: Nanotechnology is a new approach that has been lionized in recent years. One of its applications is its consumption as an absorbent. In this study, the single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) were used as an absorbent for sampling benzene in the air. Materials and Methods: For this study, SWCNTs manufactured by Iran and SKC’s activated charcoal were used for sampling benzene vapors....

The Attitude of Variation of Elastic Modules in Single Wall Carbon Nanotubes: Nonlinear Mass-Spring Model

The examination of variation of elastic modules in single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) is the aim of this paper. Full nonlinear spring-like elements are employed to simulate specific atomic structures in the commercial code ABAQUS. Carbon atoms are attached to each node as a mass point using atomic mass of carbon atoms. The influence of dimensions such as variation of length, diameter, aspect...

Ab Initio Study of Chirality Effects Onphonon Spectra, Mechanical and Thermal Properties of Nearly Samediameter Single Wall Carbon Nanotubes

In this paper, we have used density functional perturbation theory (DFPT) and Pseudo-potential method to calculate the phonon spectrum, phonon density of states (DOS), specific heat capacity and mechanical properties of (5,5) armchair and (9,0) zigzag Single Wall Carbon Nanotubes (SWCNTs). Our calculations show that Young’s modulusfor (5,5) and (9,0) nanotubesare higher than 1TPa. We have also ...

Sulfur Dioxide Internal and External Adsorption on the Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes: DFT Study

Density-functional theory is used to investigate sulfur dioxide physisorption inside and outside of single-wall carbon nanotube of (5,0) and (5,5). This study is conducted at B3LYP/6-31G* level of theory. Sulfur dioxide molecule is studied with axis oriented parallel or perpendicular to the nanotube wall. Both internal and external adsorption on nanotubes is increased with the angle of interact...

Investigation of the interaction of carbon dioxide fluid with internal and external single-wall carbon nanotubes by DFT

The effective parameters of (5, 0) and (5, 5) single-wall carbon nanotubes during the interaction with carbon dioxide as sensors are determined. The interaction of carbon dioxide  molecules with internal and external walls of the nanotubes is studied using Gaussian 03 coding by density functional theory (DFT) at the B3LYP/6-311G level of theory. CO2 rotation around tube axles vertically and par...
